A Very Early Adopter of Online Education with Far-Reaching Vision

Ruth Vilmi

Ruth Vilmi was an early adopter of online instruction, with Net-focused courses and learning materials available since the early 1990s. She is perhaps best known for her International Writing Exchange (now a part of her Discussit E-Learning Environment). Originally, Ruth's materials were housed at the Helsinki University of Technology in Espoo, Finland, but now her courses and major online resources are housed at WriteIt Online Language Services (a company she founded in 1997) and on her personal website, Ruth Vilmi Net.

I greatly admire Ruth for her vision, for the many high-quality courses and resources she made available, and for her success in shifting from an academic setting to her own online learning company.
